the biometric front

Mandatory photographing and fingerprint scanning were established for many classes of visitors to the U.S. after 9/11, raising concerns about profiling and privacy. Now, the AP reports that ten airports will pilot a more intensive biometric documentation project, scanning ten fingers for anyone who requires a visa, even travelers from countries in the Visa Waiver Program. An official from DHS notes that a ten-finger scan is virtually 100% accurate, but could be enhanced by other biometrics such as retinal scanning.
